You already pay Open Dental for support, and the Reports menu is right there. Before you add anything, it is fair to ask what Calibic does that the Reports menu and a few saved queries do not. The short answer: the reports give you the data; the work after the report is yours. Calibic does the work after the report.

What Open Dental’s reports give you

Open Dental’s Reports window, opened from the Main Menu, has a Standard list (production and income, daily and monthly reports, lists, public health), Standard Favorites, Graphic reports (production and income, accounts receivable, new patients, broken appointments, by provider or clinic), User Query for custom SQL, and User Query Favorites. The Recall List sits under the Appointment Lists (“In the Appointment Lists, click Recall”) with filters for due date range, reminders sent, recall type, provider and clinic, and it prints postcards or sends email and Web Sched reminders. The Unscheduled List and the Treatment Finder are also under the lists menu.

All of it is included in support. On 13 October 2026 Open Dental’s fee page lists $199 per location per month for the first 12 months, then $149, for up to 3 providers. Custom queries from Open Dental cost $110 an hour.

Calibic reads the same tables those reports read: procedurelog, appointment, recall, claim, payment, adjustment and securitylog.

Where the built-in reports are stronger

  • They are free with support, and they are the source of truth. Anything Calibic shows should match them.
  • Depth of filters. The Production and Income report by provider, clinic and date range is exact and auditable.
  • Custom queries. With SQL and some patience you can pull almost anything. Open Dental publishes a large query library.
  • Nothing to sign and nothing to install.

What the reports leave to you

A report is a snapshot. Somebody has to run it, read it, decide which 20 of 400 rows matter, and check next month whether anything changed. With one office manager that happens on a good Friday and not on a bad one.

The job Open Dental reports Calibic
Unscheduled treatment worth chasing Treatment Finder, filtered by you, sorted by you Focus today: ranked in dollars, with likelihood to book (LIVE)
Who is overdue for hygiene Recall List, by due date Smart recall: sorted by who is most likely to say yes (LIVE)
The morning meeting Day sheet plus the schedule, read aloud Daily Huddle: one list for the whole team (LIVE)
Did that case get done and paid Open the account Recovered: counted only when booked, completed and paid (LIVE)
Deleted payments and adjustments Audit Trail window and securitylog, read row by row Protect: payment changes ranked, the rest hidden (LIVE)
A question like “which PPO wrote off the most last quarter” Write a query or pay $110 an hour Ask: plain English, answer with the source rows shown (LIVE)

The Audit Trail row is the one owners ask about. Open Dental logs permission-gated actions to securitylog, and the Audit Trail window shows them. In one anonymised practice we analysed, 1.4 million change events came down to 5,959 alerts by simple rules and to 15 that needed a person. The log has the evidence; Protect decides which rows to read. See how to read the Open Dental audit trail.

What Calibic does not do

It does not replace a single Open Dental report. It does not write to the database, send texts, run campaigns, provide phones, hold patient forms or take payments. Texting and campaigns are ROADMAP. No SOC 2 report. Built for HIPAA, with a Business Associate Agreement sent with every sign up. It reads Open Dental, Dentrix and Eaglesoft only.

Stick with the built-in reports if

  • Someone in the office enjoys SQL and has the time every week.
  • You run one chair and the Treatment Finder list fits on one screen.
  • Adding $149 a month is not worth one recovered case to you.

Add Calibic if

  • Nobody runs the reports on a bad Friday.
  • You want the list ranked by dollars and the noise removed.
  • You want the audit trail read for you, and a recovered figure you can check against the account.

Calibic is $149 per location per month, or $119 billed annually, and reads Open Dental read-only. See exactly which tables on the Open Dental integration page.

Next step: run the Open Dental unscheduled treatment report yourself first, then compare the list with what Revenue Recovery shows.

As of 13 October 2026. Calibic is not affiliated with Open Dental Software.
